Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday (November 27) visited the under-construction Noida International Airport in Jewar and closely reviewed the work in progress. After that, he also held a high-level meeting with senior officials to assess the project’s status and address pending issues.
According to Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), the Chief Minister inspected the domestic terminal, the site planned for inauguration, security systems, traffic arrangements, and other construction activities at the airport. Meanwhile, several top officials attended the review meeting, including Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu and senior representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, DGCA, CISF, Airports Authority of India, NIAL, and the district administration.
However, during the meeting, the Chief Minister learned that the airport has not yet received its aerodrome license. As a result, he directed officials to immediately coordinate with security agencies and complete all remaining requirements without delay. In addition, he stressed the need to ensure full compliance with all safety and operational standards as soon as possible.
What is an aerodrome license?
It is a legal approval that every airport or airstrip must obtain before aircraft operations can begin. In other words, it is officially known as an airport license in India. Moreover, this certificate is essential to ensure the safe and systematic running of any airport and serves as the most important official clearance for operations.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the Noida International Airport is one of the state’s most ambitious projects. Therefore, all safety and operational work must be completed at the highest quality level and within the shortest possible time. At the same time, he emphasised that the airport will play a major role in boosting Uttar Pradesh’s development and attracting global investment. Notably, this is the second time in one month that the Chief Minister has reviewed this project.
So, what makes the Noida airport special? It is being developed under a public-private partnership model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. Initially, the first phase will cover about 1,300 hectares and include one runway and one terminal building. Eventually, after all four phases are completed, the airport will spread across nearly 5,000 hectares and is expected to become India’s largest airport.
