The Yogi Adityanath government has made a significant move for millions of working women across Uttar Pradesh. This decision not only strengthens women’s participation in the workforce but also opens new avenues of employment while ensuring peace of mind for their families.
Women Now Allowed to Work Night Shifts
In a major reform, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially permitted women to work night shifts. The government has issued a gazette notification, clearly outlining the conditions.
According to the order, female employees’ consent is mandatory before assigning night duty. No company can force a woman to work night shifts without her willingness.
Working Hours and Mandatory Safety Provisions
As per the notification, women can now work from 7 PM to 6 AM. During this period, companies must ensure women’s safety, fair pay, and welfare facilities. Employers are strictly prohibited from compromising on security arrangements.
Double Pay and Safety Infrastructure for Women Employees
The new directive states that women working at night will receive double wages. To guarantee their safety, companies are required to install CCTV cameras, deploy security guards, and provide safe transportation to and from the workplace.
Ensuring compliance with these guidelines will be the company’s responsibility, and women’s consent remains essential for night shifts.

Revised Work and Overtime Rules
Under the updated order, women can work a maximum of six days a week. The overtime limit has been increased from 75 hours to 144 hours. During overtime, women will also receive double pay as compensation.
Step Toward Women’s Empowerment
The Yogi government’s initiative is being seen as an important stride toward women’s empowerment and greater inclusivity in the workplace. It reflects the government’s intent to ensure both economic independence and safety for working women across Uttar Pradesh.
