In Bareilly, police and the SOG team carried out a major encounter in the early morning of Thursday (9 October). In the Bhojipura police station area, a wanted criminal with a ₹1 lakh bounty, Iftikhar alias Soldier alias Shaitan, was killed. The encounter took place near Bilwa Agricultural Farm on the Nainital Highway. During the exchange, a head constable was injured and admitted to the hospital, while the criminal’s accomplice managed to escape.
Robbery Committed in Bithri Chainpur
According to reports, Iftikhar alias Shaitan had committed a robbery in Bithri Chainpur area in 2024. He had over 19 criminal cases registered against him and a bounty of ₹1 lakh. Police had been tracking him for a long time. On Thursday morning, police and SOG teams surrounded the area near Bilwa Farm. The criminals opened fire, and in retaliatory action, Iftikhar was shot dead. SOG constable Rahul was injured in the exchange.
SSP Anurag Arya said that Iftikhar was wanted in the 2024 Bithri Chainpur robbery. A reward of ₹1 lakh had been declared for his arrest. Acting on a tip-off, police and SOG teams pursued him. He was shot during the encounter and declared dead at the hospital.
According to the SSP, the died criminal was wanted in 19 cases across seven districts. A numberless bike, pistol, 17 cartridges, and cash were recovered from the spot. He had earlier carried a ₹50,000 bounty and had escaped police custody for eight years. Four serious cases of murder and robbery were registered against him.
