The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has made a major decision in the interest of sugarcane farmers. For the crushing season 2025–26, the government has announced an increase of ₹30 per quintal in the price of sugarcane. According to the new rates, the price for the early variety of sugarcane has been fixed at ₹400 per quintal, while the general variety will be ₹390 per quintal.
Good News for Sugarcane Farmers
This decision will provide farmers with an additional payment of around ₹3,000 crore. The government stated that since 2017, the sugarcane support price has been increased four times. During Yogi Adityanath’s tenure, farmers have received a record payment of ₹2,90,225 crore, whereas between 2007 and 2017, payments totalled only ₹1,47,346 crore. This means that under the Yogi government, ₹1,42,879 crore more has been paid compared to previous administrations.
This price hike is being seen as a major relief for farmers, as it will help improve their income and strengthen the state’s economy.
Farmers have expressed their happiness with the decision as it will increase their income and make farming more profitable. This was a goal of CM Yogi-led BJP Government since 2017.
Relief for Trade and Industry
After supporting farmers, the government has also taken a significant step for traders and entrepreneurs. On Tuesday, the Cabinet approved the “Uttar Pradesh Sugam Vyapar (Amendment of Provisions) Ordinance-2025.” Under this, nearly 99% of criminal provisions in 13 major industrial and commercial laws have been abolished.
Now, for minor violations, instead of imprisonment, there will be monetary penalties or administrative action. This move will promote ease of doing business and create a more investment-friendly environment in the state.
The main laws covered under this ordinance include the Factories Act, Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, Motor Transport Workers Act, Boilers Act, and Contract Labour Act.
A New Direction for the State’s Economy
These two decisions clearly show that the Yogi government is working to strengthen both farmers and the business community. While farmers’ income will rise, the simplification of business regulations will help attract new investments and create more employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
