The Ayush Department of Uttar Pradesh is set to launch Ayush Mobile Medical Units (MMUs). This initiative aims at strengthening healthcare services in remote and rural areas of the state. It will cover districts such as Bahraich, Balrampur, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Shravasti, Sonbhadra, and Kushinagar.
Purpose and Funding of Ayush Mobile Units
The primary goal is to provide accessible healthcare to underserved and hard-to-reach populations. This will be achieved by bringing Ayush medical services directly to their doorsteps. A budget proposal of approximately ₹1.26 crore has been submitted for this purpose. Importantly, the first installment of ₹29 lakh has already been approved. The scheme is part of the National Ayush Mission (NAM) and is expected to be operational by September.
Services Provided
Each Mobile Unit will be staffed with an Ayush doctor, nurse, lab technician, pharmacist, and driver. These units will provide treatment based on traditional systems, including Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, and naturopathy. Besides providing medicines, the units will also offer therapies and health consultations, aligning with these practices.
Implementation Plan
The Mobile Units will follow a fixed schedule, visiting different villages daily to deliver health services. Maintenance and upgrade of mobile vans are already underway to ensure smooth functioning. This mobile healthcare delivery is expected to ease the burden on rural populations. It does so by minimizing their need to travel to urban centers for Ayush treatments.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing rural healthcare infrastructure. Moreover, it promotes traditional systems of medicine for holistic well-being across Uttar Pradesh.
