Uttar Pradesh is set to face severe cold for the next three days. The state government has issued a fresh warning. Dense fog is expected across many districts. As a result, visibility may drop to zero in some areas. Therefore, people have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

Government Alert and Advisory

Meanwhile, Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod has written to all 75 District Magistrates and SPs. He has asked them to ensure that weather alerts reach the public. At the same time, people have been urged to drive carefully. However, authorities have clearly advised staying indoors unless essential.

School Closures and Changed Timings

Due to the intense cold, schools have been closed in several districts. Notably, Bareilly, Kanpur, Agra, Kasganj, Auraiya, and Jaunpur schools are shut till 20 December.

Meanwhile, school timings have been changed in 10 districts. As a result, classes up to Class 12 will start at 9 am.

Cold Wave Warning by IMD

According to the IMD, cold wave conditions will prevail in many districts.

These include Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, and Ghazipur.

Similarly, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Basti, Kushinagar, and Gonda will also be affected.

Therefore, people in eastern UP should remain alert.

Dense Fog Across 30 Districts

Earlier today, dense fog was recorded in 30 districts.

Cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Ayodhya saw poor visibility.

Meanwhile, cold winds and moisture from western disturbances worsened the chill.

Notably, Bareilly broke an eight-year cold record.

Impact on Flights

In Varanasi, ten flights were cancelled till 15 February, while 42 were rescheduled.

Train Services Affected

Meanwhile, rail services were also hit by fog.

Over 50 trains ran late at stations like Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, and Etawah. Therefore, passengers faced long waiting hours.

Temperature Update

On Wednesday, Kanpur was the coldest city in the state. The minimum temperature dropped to 6 degrees Celsius. As a result, cold conditions intensified across nearby regions.

Weather Outlook: Next Three Days

18 December: Fog in eastern and western UP. Visibility up to 100 meters.

19 December: Light fog in western UP. Very dense fog in eastern UP. Visibility may drop to zero.

20 December: Fog across the state. Visibility between 0 and 100 meters. Clouds may appear in some areas.

According to senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, fog will persist. He said anti-cyclonic conditions and upper air systems are responsible.

Therefore, similar weather is likely till 20 December.

Moreover, It’s expected eastern UP may see dense fog for the next four days.
