The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is progressing across the country, and a major update has now emerged. The Chief Election Commission has extended the SIR deadline by 15 days. Consequently, booth-level officers (BLOs) in Uttar Pradesh will now be able to submit verification forms until December 26. This extension, decided during a review meeting, is being seen as a significant relief for BLOs. Earlier, the deadline for SIR in 12 states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, was December 4, which was later pushed to December 11. However, the process still remained incomplete.

Updated Timeline for Voter List Revision

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, stated that the state had requested two additional weeks to complete the SIR process properly. This request was made to ensure thorough verification of deceased, shifted, and missing voters. Therefore, the final date for voter verification has now been moved from December 11 to December 26.

Additionally, from December 31 to February 21, 2026, authorities will issue notices, decide on enumeration forms, and resolve claims and objections. Ultimately, the final electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh will be published on February 28, 2026.

SIR Conducted Across 12 States and 3 Union Territories

The SIR exercise has been carried out in Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, along with the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry. Altogether, the process covered 321 districts and 1,843 assembly constituencies. While the deadline for submission of census forms was initially set for December 11, it has now been uniformly extended to December 26.
