On Thursday (16 October), new facts came to light in the ₹50 crore scam involving funds sent to the accounts of 95 retired teachers from the Treasury Department in Chitrakoot district. According to departmental sources, after investigation, it is estimated that the total amount involved in the scam could reach up to ₹100 crore.
The internal inquiry committee’s report found that this embezzlement continued from the year 2018 until September 2025. Fake entries were made in government records under pension and salary heads, and funds were transferred to various accounts. In several cases, multiple payments were recorded under the same teacher’s name repeatedly.
A Long-Running Scheme
The investigation found the roles of two employees responsible for managing the accounts to be suspicious. Both are reportedly indirectly involved in the real estate business in the district. Departmental sources say the two employees used their influence to continue this scheme for an extended period.
