In the state capital Lucknow, a national conference of Legislative Assembly Speakers from across the country will be held from 19 January. UP Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana said the three-day event will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Meanwhile, during a press briefing, Mahana also outlined the key achievements of the recent winter session of the Assembly.
Satish Mahana stated that from 19 to 21 January, Lucknow will host a conference of Speakers and Chairpersons of all Legislative Assemblies and Legislative Councils in India. Notably, 31 Assembly Speakers from states and Union Territories will participate. In addition, Chairpersons of Legislative Councils from six states—Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Bihar, and UP—will also attend the meeting.
Addressing the press at the Vidhan Bhavan, Mahana said the three-day conference will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Subsequently, the concluding session on 21 January will be presided over by Governor Anandiben Patel. He added that CM Yogi Adityanath will also take part in the programme. Moreover, on 22 January, all presiding officers will be taken on a visit to Ayodhya.
Winter Session Performance
On this occasion, the Assembly Speaker also shared details of the achievements of the recently concluded winter session. He said that the session, held from 19 to 24 December, witnessed uninterrupted proceedings, as the House was not adjourned even once. As a result, all scheduled legislative business was completed successfully. During this period, the total duration of the Assembly’s proceedings was 24 hours and 50 minutes.
Mahana further informed that a total of 2,776 questions were received during the session. These included one short-notice starred question, 451 starred questions, and 1,842 unstarred questions. Importantly, out of the total questions received, 2,650 questions—amounting to 95.46%—were submitted online by members and were also made available on the public portal.
He added that during the proceedings, a total of 408 petitions were received by the House. However, no notices were submitted under Rule 311 during the third session. At the same time, several important bills were passed during the winter session, marking it as a productive legislative exercise.
