CM Yogi, while responding in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on the codeine cough syrup case, stated that not a single death in the state has been caused by cough syrup. He clarified that action in the matter will be taken under the NDPS Act. He further said that the Uttar Pradesh government fought the case in court and won it.
At the same time, taking a dig at Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, CM remarked that at this age, a person is usually habituated to speaking the truth, but the Samajwadi Party forces him to speak lies even now. He added that the Samajwadi Party should refrain from doing so and should also develop the habit of speaking the truth. He also acknowledged that Pandey had served the House for a long time as Speaker.
CM Informed the Progress in the House
Meanwhile, CM Yogi placed detailed information about the government’s action before the House. He said that 79 FIRs have been registered so far, in which 225 accused have been named. Out of these, 78 accused have been arrested, and raids have been conducted on 134 firms. He added that whenever the case is examined in depth, it repeatedly emerges that some leader or individual linked to the Samajwadi Party is involved. He also alleged that illegal transactions were carried out through the account of an office-bearer of the Lohia Vahini. The STF is investigating the entire matter.
Furthermore, CM informed the House that the court has directed that the case be tried under the NDPS Act. He said the government fought this legal battle with full strength and achieved success. He made it clear that no offender will be spared. Taking a jibe at the Samajwadi Party over bulldozer action, CM Yogi said there is no need to worry—when the time comes, full preparations for bulldozer action will be in place, and at that moment, they should not raise a hue and cry.
Samajwadi Party Lacks Basic Understanding of Education and Medical Ethics
The Chief Minister also said that whether children or adults, no one can consume such medicines without medical advice. People commonly take cough syrup for a cough, but only after consulting a doctor, and the instructions are clearly mentioned on the bottle. However, he said, the Samajwadi Party has no connection with education, which is why such irresponsible statements are made.
In addition, CM Yogi stated that the STF had caught the largest wholesaler in Uttar Pradesh in this case. He pointed out that this wholesaler was granted a license in 2016 during the Samajwadi Party government. He further remarked that there are two such “models” in the country—one sitting in Delhi and the other in Lucknow. Whenever any serious issue arises, they leave the country. He said the same is happening with “your Babua”—while others keep shouting, Babua will quietly go on a sightseeing trip to England.
