Dearness Allowance Increased for State Employees under 5th and 6th Pay Commissions; UP Govt Issues Order

-

Before Diwali, after increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state employees under the 7th Pay Commission, the Uttar Pradesh government has now issued an order on Friday (October 24) to grant the increased DA to employees under the 5th and 6th Pay Commissions as well. The DA at the new rate will be paid with the salary for the month of October. The DA for employees under the 5th Pay Commission has been increased by 8%, and for those under the 6th Pay Commission, by 5%.

Previously, employees under the 5th Pay Commission were receiving 466% DA, which has now risen by 8% to 474%. Meanwhile, the DA for employees under the 6th Pay Commission has increased from 252% to 257%. Around 27,000 officers and employees come under these two pay commissions.

Beneficiaries of the Increase

This hike will benefit state government employees working under the 5th and 6th Pay Commissions, employees of government-aided educational and technical institutions, regular and full-time employees of urban local bodies, employees on work-charge, and those under the UGC pay scale.

According to the order issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Deepak Kumar, the increased DA amount will be paid in cash along with the October salary. The arrears from July 1 to September 30 will be deposited in the employees’ provident fund accounts. For employees who do not have a provident fund account, the amount will be given through PPF or NSC.

Rules for NPS Employees

For employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS), 10% of the arrears will be deposited into their Tier-1 pension accounts, while the state government will contribute the remaining 14%. The remaining 90% of the arrears will be deposited into the employee’s PPF or provided in the form of NSCs. Employees who have retired before the issuance of the order or are due to retire within six months will receive the entire arrears in cash.

DA Increased for All India Service Officers as Well

The DA for officers of the All India Services (IAS, IPS, IFS) posted in the state has also been increased. In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, the state’s finance department has issued this directive. Officers under the 7th Pay Commission will now receive 58% DA instead of 55%, reflecting a 3% increase. Officers under the 6th Pay Commission will receive 257% DA (an increase of 5%), and those under the 5th Pay Commission will now get 474% DA after an 8% hike.
