Police on Friday (December 26) filed another chargesheet in the main case related to the violence that occurred in Bareilly on September 26. The chargesheet names Maulana Tauqeer Raza and 37 others as accused. One juvenile has also been included in the case. Meanwhile, two of the accused are residents of Shahjahanpur. Police alleged that the accused raised provocative slogans and attacked police teams at two separate locations.
Earlier, Baradari police station inspector Dhananjay Pandey had registered an FIR against Maulana Tauqeer Raza, 29 named persons, and 200–250 unidentified people. According to the complaint, on September 26, the inspector was on city patrol when he received information that miscreants had attacked a police team near Shahdana Road. It was alleged that, following Maulana Tauqeer Raza’s call, a crowd moved towards Islamia Ground while shouting inflammatory slogans.
Police Attacked Twice, Over 100 Accused So Far
After receiving the information, the inspector reached Shyamganj Bridge with additional force. However, a mob of 200–250 people, including the named accused, coming from the direction of Maulana Azad Inter College, again attacked the police team. Subsequently, the investigation was handed over to Crime Branch Inspector Sanjay Dhir. After completing the probe, he submitted a chargesheet against 38 accused on Friday (December 26). During the investigation, nine more names surfaced and were added to the chargesheet.
Meanwhile, a total of 12 cases were registered across different police stations in the city following the violence. However, charge sheets have been filed in 10 main cases so far. These cases involve more than 100 accused. At present, 87 accused are lodged in jail. Investigation in two cases is still ongoing. SP City Manush Pareek said that charge sheets have been filed in 10 cases, including the Baradari police station case, which names Maulana Tauqeer Raza and includes one juvenile accused.
