In Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, the police shot dead a wanted criminal during an encounter. As a result, Thana Bhawan and Babri police achieved a major breakthrough. Late on Monday night, a joint team from Thana Bhawan and Babri police eliminated ₹50,000 reward–listed history-sheeter criminal Sameeruddin alias Sama in the encounter.
For a long time, the accused had been evading the police and was continuously on the run. According to Shamli Superintendent of Police N. P. Singh, detailed information about the incident was shared with the media. He explained that Sameeruddin, a resident of Rai Zadgan Mohalla under Kandhla police station, had been hiding for some time in Janata Colony, Turuvekere, Tumkur district of Karnataka.
Furthermore, Sameeruddin was a notorious criminal from Shamli. Not only this, several serious criminal cases were registered against him, and therefore, he had remained absconding for a long period. Because of this, the district administration had announced a reward of ₹50,000 for his arrest. Meanwhile, the police were constantly monitoring his movements.
Meanwhile, late at night, the police received information that Sameeruddin was active in the area and was planning to carry out a major crime. Immediately after that, teams from Thana Bhawan and Babri police jointly began a cordon-and-search operation. However, as soon as Sameeruddin spotted the police, he opened indiscriminate fire.
Large Quantity of Weapons Recovered
In response, the police retaliated in self-defence. Consequently, Sameeruddin was injured during the exchange of fire. Afterwards, he was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but later, doctors declared him dead.
Following the encounter, a large cache of weapons was recovered from the spot. These included one 9mm pistol with two empty shells, one .32 bore pistol with two empty shells, one .315 bore country-made firearm, two empty shells, and four live cartridges.
Additionally, the Superintendent of Police stated that Sameeruddin was wanted in several serious cases, including under the Gangster Act. Therefore, the police are now examining his criminal history in detail to trace his network and possible associates.
At the same time, the SP clearly stated that strict action will continue against anyone who challenges law and order in the district. Moreover, praising the alertness and bravery of the police personnel, he announced rewards for the team.
Finally, the SP asserted that the encounter was conducted strictly as per the rules and in self-defence. According to police officials, similar operations against hardened criminals will continue in the future. As a result, peace and law and order will be maintained across the district.
