The United Hindu Society is the Guarantee of India’s Unity, Integrity, Development, and Security: Dr Mohan Bhagwat

Dr. Mohan Bhagwat emphasised that it is the duty of Hindu society to make India prosperous and to give the necessary and appropriate contribution to the entire world. He also said, no substitute for Swadeshi (indigenous products) and self-reliance.

The strong and virtuous organised form of the entire Hindu society is the guarantee of the country’s unity, integrity, development, and security. This is because Hindu society is free from a separatist mentality and is all-inclusive. Hindu society is the promoter and protector of the generous philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family).

The Sangh is organising the entire Hindu society, because an organised society fulfils all its duties on its own strength. The Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, made these remarks at the Vijayadashami celebration held at Reshimbagh ground. This year marks the centenary of the founding of the RSS.

Dr. Mohan Bhagwat emphasised that it is the duty of Hindu society to make India prosperous and to give the necessary and appropriate contribution to the entire world. On this occasion, former President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Vidarbha Prant Sanghchalak Deepak Tamshettivar, Vidarbha Prant Sah-Sanghchalak Shridhar Gadge, and Nagpur Mahanagar Sanghchalak Rajesh Loya were present on the stage.

No Substitute for Swadeshi and Self-Reliance

The Sarsanghchalak said that due to the import duty policy adopted by the US based on its own interests, we too will have to reconsider certain issues. He said that the world is based on mutual dependence, but this mutual dependence should not become our compulsion. For this, we must become self-reliant. There is no substitute for Swadeshi (indigenous products) and self-reliance.

Dr Bhagwat expressed concern over the environmental imbalance resulting from the world’s materialistic and consumerist policies. He said that due to the same policies, irregular and unpredictable rainfall, landslides, and floods have increased rapidly in India in the last three to four years. The Himalayas provide the entire water source of South Asia, and the continuous calamities occurring there should warn India as well as other South Asian countries

Beware of Disruptive Forces

Dr Bhagwat, referring to the anarchic conditions in neighbouring countries of India, said that in recent years, there has been great turmoil there. In Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and recently in Nepal, violent public uprisings have led to regime changes. In our country, too, and globally as well, there are forces active that wish for such disturbances within India, which is a matter of concern.

He said that the disconnect of governance and administration from society and the lack of efficient and people-oriented functioning become causes of discontent. However, violent uprisings cannot bring about the desired change. Fundamental transformation is possible only through democratic means, otherwise, such movements end up beingexploited by the world’s hegemonic powers. The Sarsanghchalak said that our neighbouring countries are culturally connected with India and share close relations. Therefore, their peace, stability, progress, and well-being are necessary for India’s own interests too.

Present Hopes and Challenges

Dr Bhagwat said that the present time is, on the one hand, strengthening our faith and hope, and on the other hand, clearly highlighting old and new challenges. It has also shown us the path of duty.

He said that the Maha Kumbh held in Prayagraj last year created a world record by establishing new benchmarks in terms of both the number of devotees and excellent management. As a result, a powerful wave of faith and unity was felt across India. At the same time, on April 22, 2025, cross-border terrorists in Pahalgam killed 26 Indian pilgrims after identifying them by their Hindu faith. Following this, a wave of grief and anger swept across India. In May, the Government of India gave a strong response with proper planning. During this time, the determination of the country’s leadership, the army’s valour and military skill, and the society’s unity presented a reassuring picture.

National Security and the Naxal Problem

The Sarsanghchalak said that even while maintaining a friendly policy towards other countries, we must remain ever-vigilant about our security and continue to enhance our strength. This has also made clear which countries are truly our friends.

He said that within the country, extremist Naxal movements have come under control due to the firm action of the government and administration. But the root causes of Naxalism in these regions have been exploitation, lack of justice and development, and administrative insensitivity. Therefore, in Naxal-affected areas, comprehensive plans must be made to establish justice, development, goodwill, and harmony.

Global Challenges

Dr Bhagwat said that communication systems and international trade have increased closeness among the nations of the world. But there is a great gap between the pace of scientific and technological progress and the pace of human adaptation. As a result, many problems are arising in ordinary human life. Challenges such as wars, environmental degradation and natural disasters, family breakdown, social disorder, and growing oppression in civic life are emerging. Efforts have been made to overcome these problems, but they have not been able to stop their rise or provide a complete solution.
