Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Goa today (November 28) to join the 550th anniversary celebration of Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Partagali. At the same time, he will unveil a 77-foot-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram.

According to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will also open the ‘Ramayana Theme Park’ built by the Math. In addition, the bronze statue has been created by famous sculptor Ram V Sutar.

Moreover, PM Modi will release a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin during the event. After that, he will address the gathering on this special occasion.

Meanwhile, Joint Convenor of the organising committee, S Mukund Kamath, told news agency ANI that more than 15,000 people are expected to attend today from across the country. He further said that the Prime Minister will first visit the Lord Ram statue and then speak to the crowd.

In addition, Kamath said that over the full 11-day celebration, more than 1.2 lakh devotees are likely to visit the Math. Along with religious events, several cultural programmes have also been planned. Furthermore, popular singers including Shankar Mahadevan and Anup Jalota will perform during the celebrations.

Importantly, the Partagali Math is the first Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math and follows the Dvaita philosophy established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya in the 13th century. The Math is located in South Goa on the banks of the Kushavati river, the release added.
Before coming to Goa, the Prime Minister also visited Sri Krishna Matha,  Udupi, Karnataka. Not only that, he also held a roadshow in the town ahead of the event.

Modi Visits Sri Krishna Matha

At Sri Krishna Matha, he took part in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme, where around one lakh people recited the Bhagavad Gita together. These participants included students, monks, scholars, and common citizens from different backgrounds.

In a post on X, he said the Sri Krishna Matha has deep cultural importance and has always worked for social service. Therefore, he added, the visit and the programme made the occasion even more special for him.

Afterwards, PM Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa located in front of the Krishna shrine. He also dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden cover for the Kanakana Kindi — a sacred window through which saint Kanakadasa is believed to have seen Lord Krishna.

The Math, established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, is an important centre of the Dvaita tradition, the release stated.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had expressed his happiness about visiting Udupi. He said he felt honoured to be part of the Gita recitation programme. Furthermore, he explained that the programme brings together people from all sections of society.
