Final Hurdle Cleared for Film City: Studios and Institutes to Be Built in First Phase with ₹1,000 Crore Investment

YEIDA had already approved the map for the first phase of the Film City project in June. The entire project is spread over 1,000 acres, and in the first phase, a 90-year license has been granted to Bayview Bhutani Film City Pvt. Ltd.

The Film City project proposed in Greater Noida has made major progress. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has resolved the final land-related issue for the Film City in Sector-21. After reaching an agreement with a farmer over land acquisition, YEIDA has cleared the way to lay the foundation stone for the project. Authorities are likely to lay the Film City’s foundation stone alongside the Noida International Airport on October 30.

In June, YEIDA approved the map for the first phase of the Film City project. The entire project covers 1,000 acres, and in the first phase, YEIDA granted a 90-year license to Bayview Bhutani Film City Pvt. Ltd. — a joint venture between filmmaker Boney Kapoor and the Bhutani Group — to develop the Film City on 230 acres.

A farmer owned approximately 150 acres of land needed for the project. In exchange, he demanded an industrial plot. Former CEO Dr Arunveer Singh gave written consent for this arrangement. However, the authority’s rules blocked the proposal, as regulations only allow industrial plot allotments through auctions and interview-based processes. For plots up to 8,000 square meters, the authority conducts allotments via e-auction.

YEIDA had sought the state government’s opinion on this matter. After receiving approval from the government, the farmer submitted his industrial project report to YEIDA, and the authority may soon allot him an industrial plot.

With this, the final hurdle in starting the Film City construction has been removed. The Bhutani Group plans to lay the foundation stone for Film City together with that of the Noida International Airport. The first phase will include the development of film studios, training institutes, and other infrastructure, with an estimated investment of around ₹1,000 crore.
