Thousands of fans created chaos at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata after football legend Lionel Messi left the event earlier than expected. The angry crowd broke chairs, threw bottles, and damaged stadium property. Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media.

The internet is talking about the civic sense of the state; at the same time, people have questioned the law and order under Mamta didi’s government.

What Triggered the Violence

Fans had paid high ticket prices, hoping to watch their favorite star play or spend time with the audience. But Messi’s quick exit after a short lap of honour left them disappointed and furious. Soon, tension turned into massive vandalism inside the stadium.

Police Action and Arrest

Kolkata Police acted swiftly after the violence. The main event organiser, Shatadru Dutta, was arrested. According to Javed Shamim, Additional Director General (Law and Order), a case has been registered. The police confirmed that the situation is now under control and confined only to the stadium area.

However, the damage is done, and the police failed to prevent it.

Refund and Investigation Announced

Officials said that organisers have promised to refund ticket money to all fans. However, police will verify how this process will work. A high-level investigation committee has also been formed to examine all aspects of the incident.

Government Response

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep sorrow over the incident. She apologised to the public and announced an inquiry committee to find out the reasons behind the mismanagement.

Police and DGP Statements

DGP Rajeev Kumar assured strict action against those responsible. He said no one would be spared, whether officials or organisers. He also said that fans deserve a full refund of their ticket money. Meanwhile, ADG Javed Shamim confirmed that normalcy has returned and legal proceedings are in progress.

The Situation Now

Police have maintained calm across the city. Traffic is normal, and fans have returned to their homes. The investigation committee will soon submit its report. Authorities promise action and compensation for affected spectators.
