On the auspicious occasion of Dev Deepawali, Varanasi – the spiritual capital of India – once again showcases a captivating blend of divinity, cultural grandeur, and modern illumination. As dusk settles on Wednesday evening, countless lamps light up both banks of the north-flowing Ganga, turning the entire city into a shimmering, dreamlike realm. This year, the state government rolls out special preparations to enhance the celebrations, ensuring an even more majestic and spiritually uplifting experience for devotees and visitors.

Grand Inauguration by CM Yogi Adityanath

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will formally inaugurate the festival by lighting the first ceremonial lamp at sunset. Ahead of the event, drone visuals revealed stunning scenes of 84 illuminated ghats and boats lined up along the river, bustling with thousands of pilgrims and visitors who have flocked to witness the divine spectacle.

Thousands of Lamps, Lasers, and Eco-Friendly Fireworks

The riverfront will dazzle with millions of earthen lamps, synchronised laser beams, and a captivating display of choreographed green fireworks. The crescent-shaped ghats will appear like a celestial stage decorated with endless rows of diyas, while floating lamps will illuminate the flowing Ganga, creating an enchanting blend of devotion and aesthetic elegance.

On the opposite bank, a wide stretch of sand will glow under brilliantly synchronised eco-friendly fireworks — a major highlight of the event. This breathtaking show will take place directly across from the Ganga Gate of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham and will use the modern Fire One Firing System. Set to devotional melodies such as Har Har ShambhuShiv Tandav, and Hey Shiva Shiva, the 10-minute aerial display beginning at 8 PM will fill the sky with rhythmic beats and vibrant light patterns.

The fireworks will soar up to 200 meters, filling the night sky and reflecting off the river’s surface. Importantly, only green crackers will be used to ensure minimal environmental impact.

Laser Show Bringing Ancient Kashi to Life

A spectacular 25-minute laser and projection-mapping show at Chet Singh Ghat will narrate the story of Kashi, tracing the city’s heritage and spiritual legacy dating back 2,000 years. Combining 3-D visuals, lighting technology, and devotional narration, the program will run three times at one-hour intervals, offering a rare visual experience that blends tradition with cutting-edge technology.

Security, Arrangements & Devotional Theme

Ensuring safety and crowd management, ample female police personnel will be deployed across the ghats. The administration aims to light 25 lakh lamps this year – 10 lakh by the government and another 5 lakh by social organisations.

This year’s theme – “Clean Kashi, Green Kashi, Divine Kashi” – emphasises environmental consciousness and spiritual harmony. From Namo Ghat to Assi Ghat, smart lighting, flower installations, green fireworks, and laser displays will enhance the divine atmosphere.
